Ithiel de Sola Pool (1917­1984) was an American scientist who taught 
at Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Yale. He was also a 
member of the scientific advisory board for the U.S. Air Force and sat 
on the Surgeon General’s Committee on Television and Children’s 
Behavior. He wrote and edited numerous books on politics, 
communications and technology.
